Position Summary

The Executive Director of Innovative Learning provides leadership and service in support of teaching and learning throughout the College. The Director reports to the Chief Information Officer. Directs two support functions; the Center for Innovative Learning and Instructional Design Services, and works collaboratively with academic administrators, faculty, and other divisional administrators. The primary responsibility of this position is to promote and support innovative approaches to learning, assist in the development and implementation of appropriate assessment tools, develop scholarship relating to teaching and learning, and support the increasing use of online instruction (synchronous and asynchronous). Provides highly responsive, service-oriented support for teaching and learning and serves as a link between teaching and learning improvement initiatives in ACPHS campuses, schools and departments, and other colleges and universities at the national level.

Demonstrates initiative and enthusiasm in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position.

Demonstrates strong communication skills, excellent inter-personal skills, and experience with decision making in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.

Demonstrates a clear understanding of how technology innovation relates to education, innovations in pedagogy, information literacy and instructional design.

Demonstrates ability to lead and manage change with vision, energy and transparency.

Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students.

Doctorate degree is required.

Educational background should include exposure to educational research methods, learning science and instructional design methodology.

Demonstrates progressive experience in the development and teaching of online courses. Familiarity with both synchronous and asynchronous approaches is an advantage.

Physical Demands

Position requires that a substantial amount of work is completed sitting at a computer or laptop. The employee regularly communicates with other personnel via telephone, in person and e-mail. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
