Position Summary

The Instructional Media Specialist collaborates with Instructional Designers , Faculty and other stakeholders to create media elements such as infographics, images, videos, simulations, tutorials, games, animations, and learner self-assessments. Using programming language and advanced development tools, the Instructional Media Specialist can illustrate complex processes, relationships, or flows that are difficult to teach with just written text or a recorded lecture. Additional areas of responsibility include providing training and support for users and leading or collaborating on special projects.

• Design, develop, and maintain instructional media/ assets in consultation with Instructional Designers, Faculty, and other stakeholders;
• Complete all stages of the media production lifecycle, including pre-production (drawing wireframes and mock-ups), production (creating and refining assets), and post-production (performing quality assurance checks).
• Develop templates, training guides, and job aids to assist with rapid development of instructional media;
• Provide user training and support for tools such as Blackboard LMS, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, ResponseWare (clickers), Learning Glass, and Panopto;
• Research, test, and recommend software and hardware for instructional media;
• Maintain relevant knowledge of the latest trends and technologies available for efficient and effective creation of instructional media;
• Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required;
• Experience working with a learning management system and a variety of presentation and authoring software is required;
• Experience designing web and print materials is required;
• Experience with photo editing software is required;
• Proficiency in multimedia development programs such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator Premiere Pro, and After Effects), Adobe Captivate, Google Apps, Trivantis Lectora, TechSmith Snagit and Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, and Web 2.0 applications;
• 1-3 years of experience working in higher education or training environments is required;
•Must have excellent oral, visual, and written communication skills;
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment is required;
• Must be able to prioritize, organize, and allocate time effectively while concurrently managing multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with concepts in layout/ visual design and instructional design is preferred;
• Proficiency in HTML, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, or other web programming languages is preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
